Born in 1976, in Kiev, USSR, Zoya Cherkassky is a graduate of the Central Art School in the Ukraine, Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts and Beit Berl College (the Midrasha) in Israel.
From 1996 to 2001 she worked in collaboration with Ruti Nemet, exhibiting together as "Ruti & Zoya." She also participated in several group exhibitions in the Tel Aviv Museum, Israel Museum, Herzliya Museum, Haifa Museum, Gallery of the Midrasha, Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien in Berlin, Kunstmuseum in Bonn and Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund, among others.
In 2003 Zoya presented her first solo exhibit, "Collectio Judaica." Using an impressive range of objects from painting and sculptures to furnishings and jewelry, she touched on the sensitive issues of anti-Semitism and Judaism, and drew wide public attention to her brilliant artistry and unique approach.
In 2004- Zoya presented in collaboration with Fashion Designer Helena Blaunstein the exhibit Le Bal des Victimes, where they adopted marketing and advertising strategies from the world of design. In the main level Zoya exhibited ten impressive sculpted figures inspired by the Japanese toy industry, with attires designed by Blaunstein. At the lower level these offered for sale to the public "art pieces" at affordable prices.
Zoya is an active member in the International NetArt scene, and her works are published in various on-line magazines.
In November 2006 Zoya presented a new exhibition called Action Painting at the Tel Aviv Museum, Helena Rubinstein Pavilion. The show, curated by Ellen Ginton, included large paintings exploring the interrelationships and confrontations between the figure of artist, the art world, and society.
In 2007 Zoya participated in the distinguished full- year program of the Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien Art Center in Berlin, with the support of IcExcellence. This special program enabled her to concentrate on new works, and broaden her experience and contacts. Her concluding exhibit
entitled Disobedience, was a full-room installation assembled from various components. Cherkassky and her partner artist Ter-Oganian investigated the artist's role in contemporary society and the institutionalization of art by portraying the system and its protagonists in an ironic way.
