Born in 1972, Lior Navok has already had his music performed in the United States, Europe, Israel and Mexico by numerous prestigious orchestras and ensembles, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Tanglewood Festival Orchestra and Omaha Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Rasch'r Saxophone Quartet, Collage New Music and Alea III.
Lior holds a Doctor's degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied composition with John Harbison and conducting with Tamara Brooks. He earned a double Bachelor's degree in Classical Composition and Orchestral Conducting from the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, studying composition with Yinam Leef.
Lior has released two highly acclaimed CDs: Hidden Reflections and Meditations Over Shore. Well-received by critics, these CDs are frequently broadcast worldwide. Navok's pieces have also been performed in such celebrated festivals as Tanglewood (US), Aspen (US), Begegnungen (Austria), Manuel Enriquez (Mexico), Internationaler Zelt Musik Festival (Germany), Greensboro (US), and halls such as Carnegie Recital Hall, Jordan Hall and the Berlin Dom.
Awards and Fellowships
Mr. Navok has received numerous awards, including the Lily Boulanger Award, Prime Minister's Award (Israel), Massachusetts Cultural Council, Golden Feather Award (Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers in Israel), America-Israel Cultural Foundation grants, and fellowships from the Tangelwood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, and McDowell Colony, among many others.
His busy composing schedule includes compositions for diverse orchestras, ensembles and performers. Recent commissions include the Fromm Music Foundation, American Composers Forum, Florestan Recital Project, Collage New Music and a consortium of twenty US wind ensembles (including MIT, New England Conservatory, Harvard, and Yale).
