"... the overwhelming show of the star of the evening - Maestro Dan Ettinger. His musical capabilities are apparently endless: Singer, Pianist, Cymbalist - this time he picked up the baton, and effortlessly curled the Requiem around it like butter: without force, without effort, with total control, clear technique, a full understanding of the musical interpretation, and no problem whatsoever in accomplishing all of it."

Born in 1971 in Holon, Dan began his piano studies at the age of six. He graduated from Thelma Yellin High School, and served in the IDF's special program for excellent musicians. In 1993, he won first prize in the Francois Shapira Competition as a baritone singer (1993) and performed with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. He participated for several years in the summer academy courses of IVAI - Israel Vocal Arts Institute. During 1995-1998 Dan sang in various roles at the New Israeli Opera and was also a faculty member at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University. During that time he began to focus more on conducting, and started his meteoric progress in that field.

In 1999 Dan was appointed Chorus Master and Assistant Conductor at the New Israeli Opera; and since shortly thereafter, has served as the Opera's Conductor in Residence. His engagements there included Don Pasquale, L'Italiana in Algieri, Don Giovanni, Magic Flute, Norma, La Traviata, Die Fledermaus, Carmen, Tosca, La Belle Helen, Nabucco, Eugene Onegin and Aida.

In 2002-2003 Dan was nominated Chief Guest Conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, where he leads the orchestra regularly in various symphonic and liturgical programs as conductor and soloist, playing and conducting Mozart & Haydn concerti from the piano. A major development occurred in 2003, when Dan was invited by Maestro Daniel Barenboim to join the Staatsoper "Unter den Linden," Berlin, as a Kapellmeister and Assistant to the GMD. During the 2003-2004 season, he performed works such as Turandot, L'Elisir d'Amore, Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, and La Bohème.

As of 2005-6 Mo. Ettinger is the new Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Israel Symphony Orchestra (Rishon Le'Zion). In addition, his constant busy engagements include invitations to conduct Tosca at the Opera North, Leeds (UK), Falstaff at the Tokyo New National Theater, as well as Cosi fan Tutte in March 2005.

In Jan.-Feb. 2005 Mo. Ettinger made his US debut conducting Aida at the Los Angeles Opera, by special invitation from Placido Domingo.

Future engagements for 2007-8 include the Hamburg Opera, the Washington National Opera, Teatro Verdi Trieste and the Wiener Staatsoper, among others.

Dan Ettinger was chosen by the distinguished members of IcExcellence Advisory Board for Classical Music: Mendy Rodan, Tzvi Avni, Mira Zakai, Idith Zvi and Hagai Shaham.

"... Another important component was Maestro Dan Ettinger's conducting of the Los Angeles Opera's Orchestra. Under Ettinger's baton, the passion of Puccini's music still spoke through the musicians as well as the singers..."
Wendy Kikkert, The Beverly Hills Outlook, 2006

"...The storytelling audible from the orchestra pit, however, is a thing already known. And yet, it is always a pleasure to hear it especially when it is played as fascinating and delicate, as powerful and fragile as it was played by the Staatskapelle under the direction of Dan Ettinger..."
Turandot Staatsoper, Berlin: Ulrich Ruhnke, Das Orchester Magazine, Dec. 2003

"... Whoever heard the performance yesterday knows that not only Rossini, but also the young conductor (30) Dan Ettinger, is making his way to the top....Thus, the operatic style entangles with the religious over and undertones that Dan Ettinger expresses so well. Ettinger breathes musicality, extracts rhythmic precision, his phrasing is extraordinarily musical..."
Ora Binnur, Maariv

"... What a joy it is, to listen to a young Israeli conductor, gifted with so much musicality, finesse, and talent. All in all, Ettinger is energetic, with a rich body language, and great, majestic movements. He has full control over himself, and the orchestra is more than willing to follow his lead wherever he might go....We should better wait for Danny "The Magician" Ettinger, who makes each and every orchestra take off."
Maxim Reider, The Jerusalem Post

A Sensitive Conductor is Born
"Surprise! Last night I went to hear the beautiful music of Rossini's Mass, but I found myself hypnotized by the musical beauty of a young Israeli conductor - Dan Ettinger (30). What a revelation; a sensitive conductor was born. His extraordinary musicality seems simply to ooze from his fingers, not to talk about his sensitivity to sound, to the human voice, to good taste - his conducting is saturated with it....He has an ear for right phrasing. Marvelous. The beauty with this youngster is that he simply lets the music 'be.'"
Hanoh Ron, Yedioth Aharonot, Dec. 28, 2001
