"...I can't explain what happened there. I only know that the three created movements I will never forget. I can only wish that you will all have a chance to see it."

Idit Herman, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, graduated from the Dance Department of the Thelma Yellin Art School. She danced with the Bat Sheva Dance Company from 1989 to 1991, and proceeded to work with various dance theater groups in Europe over the next four years. In 1995, Idit and her partner Dmitry Tyulpanov founded the Clipa Theater. Dmitry Tyulpanov was born in Leningrad, USSR. He graduated art school with a major in sculpture, and simultaneously studied music and acting. From 1987 to 1995 he was part of the Russian Theater group Derevo.

Clipa Theater, puts on multidisciplinary, physically dynamic and integrally complete extravaganzas. Its eight members, all graduates of fine arts schools, specialize in movement and acting. They also have training in music, circus and the plastic arts. Their performances combine a unique movement style with an extremely visual concept of stage. The group members design and create their own sets, props, costumes, and makeup, as well as the music which is specially composed for each and every scene, and mostly performed live on stage.

Clipa Theater has staged a dozen productions over the past few years, among them Wanted, Labyrinth and Deus Ex Machina. One of the primary representatives of Israeli alternative theater abroad, last season Clipa performed in Italy, France, Germany, Austria and South Korea.

In November 2006, Idit participated in an impressive interdisciplinary show, Badenheim, combining literature, theater, music and dance, at the Cameri Theater in Tel Aviv. In this project she joined hands with co-IcExcellence chosen artist: Composer Gil Shohat. Idit was in charge of the choreography, which was performed by her
Clipa ensemble.
Badenheim, based on the story by Aharon Appelfeld, depicts a group of hedonistic vacationers from the Jewish bourgeoisie in Europe who gather, as they do each year, in Badenheim to await the opening of a colorful arts festival; and ignore the ever more tangible signs of the
approaching calamity.

"They excel at creating moments of grotesque humor, then nudging them towards satire or maybe in the shadows of something more sinister, macabre..."
Mary Bernnan, The Herald, Edinburgh

A highly imaginative production, has the ability to constantly amaze...
A full-on, old-school Fringe experience."
Evening News, Edinburgh

"The top of independent creation this year was, undoubtedly, the impressive progress of Clipa Theater, that reached its pick at the amazing opening ceremony of Israel Festival, 'Deus Ex Machina.' In many ways, that was the theatrical event of the year and whoever was not there missed an unforgettable experience..."
