"Aesthetically speaking, I cannot think of a stage designer who takes as much care with composition, color, and every last detail as Bambi does, to the point of perfectionism that highlights his quality as an artist." Arthur Kogan, Director

Bambi Friedman, set and lighting designer, received his BA and MFA cum laude in stage design from Tel Aviv University’s Theater Arts Department. For the past eight years he has been teaching lighting design and computer applications for set design at his alma mater. In 2004-05 he served as the acting head of stage design studies at the Theater Arts Department. He also teaches scenery and lighting design in the Performance and Event Department at the Shenkar School of Engineering & Design.
Uniquely specializing in both set and lighting design, Bambi has proven his diversity and rich artistry as a top designer in Israeli theater as well as a teacher and lecturer. Over the past decade he has designed scenery and lighting for dozens of productions in most of the theaters in Israel, including Habima National Theater, the Cameri, Beit Lessin, the Khan Theater, Beersheba Theater, Ramat Gan Theater – The Sifriya, and others. He also designs numerous productions for commercial theater, children’s theaters and acting schools.
Bambi designs sets for quite a few Israeli commercial, national and cable television programs, including game shows, talk shows and specials. The public and commercial sectors also benefit from Bambi’s talents in stage and space design. Among his clients are the Olympic Committee, the Jewish Agency, Atidim – IDF, and companies such as Tnuva, Lipton Tea and L’Oreal Cosmetics. He also designed branches and restaurants for Lechem Erez throughout Israel.
Bambi’s artistic approach is best expressed by his combined mastery over many different tangential domains. He aspires to move among the various three-dimensional disciplines and media while basing himself on theatrical sources. As a multidisciplinary artist, he constantly traverses spatial boundaries in his work, using techniques and technologies from all realms of life in his environment.

"I was immediately impressed by his fresh and new approach to the subject, and his determination to make a real personal contribution to the theater as a whole, and not just to his own specialization. Unlike many people, he seemed to understand the global impact of dramatic activity, and the profound effect it can have for the spectators, and it is, in my opinion, the difference between being simply a good craftsman (which he is) or a real creative artist which he certainly is."
"I was therefore delighted when the opportunity arose in 2002 for Bambi Friedman to assist me in my London Studio on a major production of the 15th Century Spanish Classic I was preparing for a production in the United States. As we worked together, I was increasingly impressed by his instinctive artistry, which is a rare talent one is born with and one cannot acquire. He has a fine instinct to know when something is right or not, and is capable of making artistic and creative judgments in the context of the work... Also his international interests that would enable him to artistically contribute to productions in other countries."
Prof. Pamela Howard, FRSA - Director/Scenographer, former head of Scenography Studies, Central St. Martins College of Art and Design
"Having followed his academic achievements closely, I can assure you that there are very few design students with the kind of intellectual curiosity and integrative thinking that Bambi possesses. His thesis on the notion of the home/house in the plays of Hanoch Levin was comprehensive and innovative, full of brilliant insights and firmly based in academic methodology. It was clearly and beautifully written and well documented. In short: a masterpiece! Bambi's stage designs are always very carefully thought out, but they are never intellectual exercises. His broad knowledge and his drive to investigate, in the best sense of the term, never overshadow his basic creative instincts."
Prof. Freddie Rokem - Dean of the Faculty of the Arts, Tel Aviv University
"His deep understanding of the production processes, the various play genres and acting concepts make him a productive, indispensable partner in the theatrical creation. His unceasing ability to look at the work with innovative, fresh and unique eyes grants all the artists inspiration worth more than gold. When doing my doctorate studies at the Theater Department in Tel Aviv University, I saw the tremendous effort he puts into fostering and advancing the next generation of designers in Israel, and integrating them in the actual act of making theater."
Arthur Kogan, Director
"His control over the two realms enables him to combine the use of scenery and lighting in an overall design of the stage space. The pleasantness of his manners and his creativity, in conjunction with his pragmatic approach, contribute to his functioning as a uniquely significant member of the group of artists in a theatrical production. His originality and creative intensity, combined with his intellectual talents and natural curiosity, allow him to expand his activity as a designer beyond the theater as well in design for television, events, and so forth. Bambi has a strong will to take part in developing the art of stage design in Israel, not just through his creations in the theater and other spheres, but also as a teacher. In his lighting classes at Tel Aviv University he proves to be a passionate teacher who knows how to use his extraordinary communication skills to reveal to his students not only the techniques of the profession, but also the magical secret of doing theater."
Prof. Bentzi Munitz - Head of Lighting Design Studies, Tel Aviv University
